Docent Training Program

Are you a history buff? Interested in helping interpret history? Do you enjoy telling stories or listening to them?

Seashore Trolley Museum is seeking enthusiastic, welcoming individuals to join our docent program. Every year, the Museum welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from all 50 states and over 20 countries. Docents offer tours of our carbarns, restoration shop, exhibits and expansive transit collection. Enjoy the wonderful camaraderie with fellow Museum docents, volunteers and staff. You will have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field of historical preservation and share your passion for York County and transit history with others in our community and beyond.

A docent is a volunteer educator, who historically, lectured while visitors listened. Today’s dynamic Seashore docents create and facilitate conversation-based tours that bring history to life. Docents learn the colorful stories of our history and collection, as well as how mass transit transformed York County and the world. You can sign up for as many hours as you would like with as little as two days a month. For that authentic look you can get uniform accessories at the Museum Store. As the world’s oldest and largest transit museum of its kind, we offer a unique contribution to the American tale. What might you add to our guests experience? We look forward to having you in our Docent Training Program.
