Seashore Trolley Museum seeks a part-time, volunteer Assistant Curator to assist our Museum Curator.
The Assistant Curator will work in concert with the museum curator to oversee the vast collection of streetcars, rapid transit cars, busses and trackless trolleys.
The Assistant Curator under the direction of the curator, will oversee the items for de-accessioning for disposal and or re-homing.
The Assistant Curator will chair curatorial committee meetings as necessary in the absence of the museum curator.
The Assistant Curator works with the curator and Shop Director to ensure the current year’s operating fleet will be available. The Assistant will also follow up on any issues that occur with regard to funding restoration projects in process.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to work effectively with and to manage other people.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to secure sponsorships and recruit project managers for preservation project efforts.
- Skill in the appropriate handling, operating, and storage of our collection.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
- Records and database maintenance skills (we use PastPerfect).
- Knowledge of exhibit preparation procedures.
- Knowledge of basic Museum processes and procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions.
- Informational research skills.
