Now Hiring: FT Restoration Shop Technician & PT Welder/Metal Fabricator

Seashore Trolley Museum is now hiring for two positions in our Restoration Shop: A part-time Welder/Metal Fabricator and a full-time Restoration Shop Technician. Both position descriptions are listed below, along with instructions on how to apply.

  1. Welder, Metal Fabricator (Part-Time)

Seashore Trolley Museum seeks a reliable, part-time, trained welder to work on the restoration of vintage trolleys and rapid transit trains. The work revolves frequently around removal of damaged and/or corroded structural and cosmetic elements and the fabrication and integration of new, replacement pieces. As the work will often be structural in nature, a working knowledge of designing and fabricating pieces for specific load requirements will be a must. Knowledge of the full range of welding methods: Stick, MIG, TIG, gas (including brazing) is highly desirable. The ability to work with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals (especially aluminum) is required.

Any industry recognized credentials in the aforementioned areas will be an advantage. The components we work on are often large so a reasonable level of fitness is important. Being able to lift 50 pounds is generally adequate.

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this part-time position is $20-$22/hour to start, dependent upon the experience of the successful candidate. The position’s start date is flexible after January 4, 2022, but ideally by January 31, 2022.

The Ideal Candidate Possesses the Following:

  • Formal technical training and/or a minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • Must be able to achieve high quality of craftsmanship while focusing on small details.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to work in a covered, non-heated and non-cooled environment, year-round.
  • Ability of lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Proven experience in meeting deadlines, written and verbal communication, and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work with non-automated machinery at a self-directed pace with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated stable work history and a strong work ethic.
  • Safety-oriented.
  • An interest in historic preservation and ‘old’ mechanical and transportation objects.

2. Restoration Technician (Full-Time)

Seashore Trolley Museum seeks a reliable, full-time Restoration Technician to work year-round in our Restoration Shop. Maintenance, repair and restoration of vintage trolleys requires a mid-level knowledge of multiple disciplines. Some of the most commonly used skills are: Electrical, plumbing, painting and a high competency level with hand tools and shop tools i.e. drill press, grinder, table-saw, planer, impact wrench, etc. Mid- to upper-level skills as a machinist and/or welder would be a definite plus but not required for this position.

The components we work on are often large, so a reasonable level of fitness is important. Being able to lift 50 pounds is generally adequate. A general understanding of low and high voltage components (up to 600v D.C.) is beneficial. We work on pressurized air systems, so a knowledge of compressors and air piping and related plumbing is highly desirable. A “jack-of-all-trades” can be a successful candidate, as the trolley-specific knowledge is usually easily assimilated by persons who are very comfortable with the above-listed skills.

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this full-time position is $18-$22/hour to start, dependent upon the experience of the successful candidate. Additional benefits include paid time off and holidays. The position’s start date is flexible after January 4, 2022, but ideally by January 31, 2022.
