Transit Weekend
Our Open House As a museum of mass transit, we collect all types of vehicles. We have streetcars, interurbans, rapid transit cars, buses, trackless trolleys, work equipment, and freight equipment. On Transit Weekend, we bring out our rapid transit cars, buses, and trackless trolleys, which are not usually operating on a normal day. Our bus collection is constantly on the move, with rides around the Museum as well as local bus trips around town. Mixed in throughout the day is the operation of our trackless trolley. This unique mode of transportation is a bus that uses overhead wires (like a streetcar) to power electric motors and they remain in use in only few cities across the United States. Being electric, it will seem odd sitting in a bus and hearing virtually no noise as you move down the road. Also during the day’s activities, our rapid transit cars make frequent trips on our demonstration railway. This is in addition to the streetcar service provided normally. You will have the chance to ride on a subway train from New York City (two different vintages) or an elevated train from Boston. Saturday lunch service provided by Ned's Bakes & BBQs
