State and Federal governments, leading corporations, charitable foundations, non-profit organizations and engineering societies are joining together to improve performance of America's students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This campaign has developed because American students rank near the bottom in science literacy and math literacy compared with students from all developed countries.
The Maine STEM Collaborative is a partnership that has developed statewide as a response to the national campaign. It seeks to ensure that:
Maine students have essential knowledge and |
skills in STEM fields. |
Students are aware of and aspire to engage in |
STEM fields as a career option. |
Maine's overall student STEM participation is |
increased by 10% by 2014. |
